Teaching Practice @GGHSS Kanyakulangara

Week 1 @ GHSS Kanyakulangara

This weekend we had a fruitful experience with the students. There was a rush to finish the portions and also the need to complete our lesson plans. Everyone was busy in their own way. We also communicated with other college trainees. Each and every student teacher had different opinions about the classes.

The first weekend we had to rush between the school and the college to get the record corrected by the principal Dr. Benedict sir. Not only that it was difficult to get his signature since he found many faults with our teaching aids and lesson plans. The school began at 9:30 and the first bell for class rang at 10 am. My first hour was with 9 C1 class students. We had a good interactive session. I was able to employ my teaching aids such as charts and images to make the topic clear and comprehensible for them. The chapter we dealt with that day was prose from Unit 2. The first interaction with the children made all my anxiety go away. The next hour was with 9C2 children. Each class had students who had genuine doubts and questions and I was happy to answer their questions. This was the flow during the first week.

2nd Week @ GHSS Kanyakulangara

This week I finally had the chance to meet with standard 8th class students and they give me the most memorable experience to take away from that school. Each and every child in that class was vibrant and energetic and I really felt thankful that I got to teach them.

As a first, I employed both verbal and non-verbal communication to help my teaching and I also got to learn about my students, like who showed more attention, who had language competence, etc. I made them do some group activities to supplement my lesson and I was happy to see clear progress towards the end of the class. The next hour was also with 8D2 students. They needed more care and time to learn concepts but they gave a clear sign of understanding of the poem ' Song of the Flower". Mondays were free while on Fridays I had to deal with four classes. The class continued with both 8D and 9C students.
